chuchua.tech at the 23rd Annual Pow Wow

There is a specific kind of energy in the Simpcw Community Hall when the drums start. It is the sound of our heartbeat and the sound of our home. This year, the 23rd Annual Honoring Our Young Women Pow Wow felt even more significant for us at chuchua.tech because we got to put our "technical hands" to work for our own people.

As Simpcw band members, we believe that technology should always serve the community first. When the committee reached out, we knew we wanted to contribute more than just attendance.

The Brochure: Bringing the vision to paper

We had the privilege of designing the official brochure for this year’s event. From the schedule of the Grand Entry to the Princess Pageant Talent competitions, we wanted the design to reflect the strength and beauty of the women being honoured.

The schedule was packed with everything that makes our gatherings special:

  • The Tiny Tots and Golden Age categories: Respecting both our future and our history.

  • Hand Drummers and Inter-Tribals: The music that keeps us moving.

  • Princess Pageant: A celebration of the leadership and grace of our young women.

"A matriarch's legacy is not measured in years, but in the courage and kindness she leaves behind."

Supporting the Toonie Auction

One of the highlights of the Pow Wow is always the community support shown through the toonie auction. To help raise funds for the committee’s incredible work, chuchua.tech donated a single-page website package valued at $1,000.

This isn't just a placeholder on the internet. It is a digital home for a local project, artist, or entrepreneur. We wanted to provide a tool that helps someone in our community claim their space online with the same sovereignty we talk about in our data systems.

While there are some technical restrictions to keep the site manageable, it is a fully professional "digital storehouse" ready to be filled with Simpcw stories and successes.

Why we do it

Our mothers and grandmothers are the ones who braided the strength of our people together. As a tech company based right here in Chu Chua, we see it as our responsibility to follow that example. Whether we are designing a brochure or building a website, we are practicing Knucwentwécw (helping each other).

The Pow Wow is about more than two days in April. It is about the legacy we leave for the young women who will one day lead us. We were honoured to play a small part in that this year.

Safe travels home to everyone who attended. We are already looking forward to seeing the community again for the next Pow Wow in April 2027.
